The Presidential Commissioner for the United Nations, Miguel Pizarro, regretted that Venezuela appears for the third consecutive year in the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO), a report prepared by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) that evaluates humanitarian needs in the world.

“Prolonged and significant economic contraction, chronic inflation with episodes of hyperinflation, political polarization and localized violence continue to be key drivers of humanitarian needs in Venezuela,” reads the GHO report.

Moreover, Pizarro pointed out that food insecurity and nutrition continue to be one of the biggest concerns about Venezuela.

“The malnutrition rate increased from 2.5% in 2010-2012 to 27.4% in 2018-2020,” he added.

Likewise, he remarked that Venezuela appears alongside countries that suffer major crises and humanitarian emergencies and urgently require international aid.

“The continuing lack of public policies continues to deteriorate the quality of life of Venezuelans,” concluded Mr. Pizarro.
