Borges was in charge of opening the event and assured that Maduro’s regime has become a criminal state with an anti-war agenda.

Maduro leads a criminal state with an anti-western agenda, his links with terrorist groups and his alliance with Cuba and Iran is a clear threat to the peace and security of the entire hemisphere,” he said.

The representative of the interim government’s foreign policy also referred to the pillars that support Nicolas Maduro. “At this moment the only thing left for the dictatorship is the support of Cuba, Iran and organized crime, that is the tripod on which Maduro is resting,” he said. He insisted that it is vital that international and internal pressure be combined to achieve an outcome in the country.

For her part, Amy Archibald, Director for Venezuelan Affairs of the State Department, reiterated the support of the United States to President Juan Guaidó and to the struggle of the Venezuelan people to achieve the reestablishment of democracy. Archibald denounced the interference and role of Maduro’s regime evil allies in the country.

The executive director of the Center for a Secure Free Society (SFS), Joseph Humire, showed some of the evidence of Hezbollah’s presence in Venezuela and assured that a transnational organized crime structure that threatens the entire hemisphere is converging in the country. The rest of the participants focused on the corruption of the regime, gold smuggling, the role of China, the role of Russia and its companies in Venezuela, as well as the need for greater international coordination to find a solution to the crisis.
