Miles de filipinos agasajaron hoy con un gran desfile en Manila a la nueva Miss Universo, su compatriota Pia Wurtzbach, que saludó efusivamente durante varias horas a sus fervientes seguidores en medio de fuertes medidas de seguridad.

La belleza filipino-alemana, que llegó a Manila el sábado pasado, se trasladó por las avenidas más céntricas de la capital de su país sobre una enorme carroza, que imitaba la corona de Miss Universo, en medio de una marea de ciudadanos.
La ganadora de Miss Universo 2015, ataviada con la imponente corona y un tradicional vestido filipino, estuvo rodeada durante todo el evento por bandas de música, coloridos grupos de baile, abundante confeti y miles de pancartas con mensajes de apoyo de los filipinos, que coreaban histéricos su nombre.
Un importante dispositivo de seguridad, formado por decenas de vehículos de la Policía de Filipinas, también acompañó la carroza de Wurtzbach, lo que dificultó su traslado por algunas de las principales avenidas, donde se había prohibido la circulación desde el mediodía.
Wurtzbach no había pisado aún Filipinas desde el pasado 21 de diciembre cuando se hizo con la corona de Miss Universo en una rocambolesca ceremonia en la que el presentador, Steve Harvey, inicialmente nombró por error a Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, como la ganadora del certamen.
Antes del desfile en Manila, Wurtzbach recibió de manos del alcalde, el expresidente Joseph Estrada, la llave de la ciudad y fue declarada “hija adoptiva” de la capital.
Después, fue recibida por el presidente del Senado de Filipinas, Franklin Drilon, quien le hizo entrega de una copia de la resolución legislativa 111, que reconoce el “honor y orgullo” que ha llevado al archipiélago asiático con su victoria en Miss Universo.
El texto reza que la actitud positiva de la filipina y su determinación son un ejemplo para el pueblo, especialmente para los más jóvenes, y una prueba de que ningún sueño es imposible de cumplir.
Wurtzbach, de padre alemán y madre filipina, es la tercera filipina en ganar Miss Universo, después de que sus compatriotas Gloria Díaz, en 1969, y Margarita Moran, en 1973, consiguieran hacerse con el título.
Los certámenes de belleza son eventos muy populares en Filipinas desde que llegaran al archipiélago asiático con la colonización del país por parte de EEUU a finales del siglo XIX.
Las importantes victorias de las representantes filipinas de los últimos años, como las de Megan Young en Miss Mundo y Bea Santiago en Miss Internacional, ambas en 2013, han intensificado más si cabe la afición del país a estos concursos. EFE
